Claoma Evlyn Benefield, 88, died on Monday, Dec. 27, 2010 at the Kaiser Hospital in Modesto.

A resident of Escalon for the past eight years, she was born on Oct. 26, 1922 in Liberty, MO to Cecil Raymond and Iola Dell McCollum.

Survivors include her adopted children, Dorothy Trumbull and John Benefield, both of Arkansas; two grandchildren, Jamie Benefield and J.J. Benefield, also of Arkansas; her siblings, Naomi Furrow of Escalon, Irma Phillips of Wisconsin, Robert McCollum of Colorado, and Glenn McCollum of San Jose; and several nieces and nephews, Delle Johnson, Evlyn Crow, Donna K. Dunn, Richard Dunn, Beverly Phillips, Rodger Phillips, Keith McCollum, Randi McCollum, Gary McCollum, Jay McCollum, John McCollum, Stephen McCollum Miller, Cheri DePont and Michiel T. McCollum.

She was preceded in death by her husband James H. Benefield Jr.; her parents; her sister Wilma Jean Dunn and her brother Mark Duane McCollum.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church on Catherine Way in Escalon.

Burial will be at the national Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
