Carl Ernest Degerman, 79, formerly of Escalon, died Monday, Sept. 27 at Lakeside Assisted Living in Stayton, Oregon.

Born in Escalon, he spent his entire life here until his recent move to Oregon.

He was a farmer and enjoyed sharing his love of farming with exchange students from Japan. Often concerned about the weather and "this year's set," he always had time for a story.

He also enjoyed hunting in northeastern California, steelhead fishing along the Klamath River and the latest development in automobiles. He took great delight in his grandchildren and loved to watch them "put on a show for papa."

He was a devoted husband and loving father with a lifelong commitment to serving God. He was also a firm believer in the power of prayer.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Josephine Degerman; children, Anita and Tina Couchman of Aromas, Calif. and Carolyn and Dave Halemeier of Mill City, Oregon; siblings, Harry Degerman of Escalon, Edith Van Wey of Tuolumne, Dorothy Bloecher of Stockton and Florence Hultgren of Berkeley; and six grandchildren, Cyndie and Kristi Couchman, and Elisabeth, Joshua, Heidi and Janette Halemeier.

No visitation. Service will be Saturday, Oct. 9 at 10 a.m. at Deegan Funeral Chapel, Escalon. Interment will be at Burwood Cemetery, Escalon.

Deegan Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.
