Betty Jean Oswald, born in Colorado City, Texas on October 19, 1937, passed away on July 30, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Florence Oswald, her brother Charles Oswald and survived by her two loving sisters Patsy Oswald and Judith Bournival, brother-in-law John Bournival, nephew Douglas and nieces Lisa and Cinnamon. Betty graduated from Escalon High School in 1955 where her beautiful singing voice was noted in her music class, traveling to San Francisco to sing on several radio shows. She graduated from Modesto Jr. College where her first choice for a career was journalism, but changed to a teaching career and received her Master’s Degree from San Francisco State in speech and furthering her education in getting a certificate to teach hard of hearing children, teaching for over 39 years at Cleveland Elementary School in Stockton, CA.
Betty loved reading, and excelled in photography and watercolor painting. She traveled the world on tours and on her own. When she decided to take her sabbatical from teaching, she met her sister Patsy in Paris and began their many trips together exploring France, Italy, Egypt, and Russia. She was very special and inspirational to her students, friends and family. She will never be forgotten for all the wonderful qualities she possessed. Special thanks to the staff and residents at Aegis Living, Kaiser Permanente and Kaiser Hospice for all their loving care.
Graveside services will be held at Burwood Cemetery on September 30, at 10 a.m. with a gathering to share memories from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Escalon United Methodist Church Social Hall at 2000 Jackson Ave.
Donations in her memory and per her wishes may be made to the Escalon Library or a charity of your choice.
