Belva Agnes Ballance, 90, died Tuesday, Sept. 21 in Modesto.

She had been a resident of Escalon for the past 60 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who deeply loved her family.

She was always ready for a "great adventure," whether it was exploring a riverbank or finding bugs in her backyard. She was a Cub Scout leader, involved in Job's Daughters, DeMolay, 4H and Eastern Star, among other things. In her spare time she was a bookkeeper for Stockton Beverage and then EUHS district.

Survivors include her children, Elise Layne of Sanger, Harry Ballance of Escalon, Robert Ballance of Rockaway, NJ, and Richard Ballance of Sanger; her grandchildren, Kevin Layne of Reedley, Randal Layne of Fresno, Michael Layne of Selma, Barry Ballance of Escalon, Rodney Ballance of Escalon, Kristen Flynn of NJ, Eric Ballance of Washington, DC, Kathy Ballance of White Station, NJ, Jennifer, Ruth and John Ballance, all of Fresno; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alma and Charles Erskine, and her husband of 49 years, Robert Ballance.

A graveside service was held Monday, Sept. 27 at Burwood Cemetery in Escalon.
