Barbara Beatrice Bryant, 75, of Oakdale lost her battle with cancer on Saturday, June 28.

Barbara was born on May 21, 1939, the second of 12 children, to William and Dorothy Boshears in Cincinnati, Ohio. She grew up in Cincinnati, and often remembered the particular influence of her grandmother Pearl. As a young girl, she attended Hilcrest Boarding School. She married young and moved to California around 1956.

Barbara became a mother in 1966 when she and her husband, William Jerome, Jr., adopted their only daughter Susan Lynne, while living in Oakland, California. She moved to Oakdale with her family in 1974 and began working at Pioneer Equine Hospital, where she worked in the office for the next 27 years. She enjoyed her work and the many people she met throughout the years. At home, she loved being a mother to Susan, gardening, and raising livestock on the ranch where they lived.

Later in life, she moved to town and became an active member of her church and community. She volunteered at the Oakdale Senior Center where she once again loved meeting new people. She was lively and adventurous, and had a great sense of humor. She was loved by many.

Survivors include her daughter, Susan (Fred) Todd; grandchildren Katie (Quinton) Darling, Amber (Kalen) Darling, and Ryan Todd; siblings, Ronald of Florida, Joseph (Linda) of Texas, Gary, Gene (Nancy), Michael (Donna), Annetta, Sandy, and Debbie, all of Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Earl Bryant, husband William Jerome Jr., brothers Jake of Ohio and Lawrence “Butch” of California, and sister Anita of Kentucky.

A Memorial Service will be held at Escalon First Baptist Church on Saturday, July 12, at 11 a.m.

It was Barbara’s request that in lieu of flowers, remembrances be made through donations to St. Jude’s Hospital or to the Veteran’s Administration.
