ARTHENE CLAIRE (KENDALL) LOUREIRO obit

Arthene Claire Kendall was born May 26, 1937 in Stockton, CA. She grew up there through her elementary school years. Her family moved to Escalon when Arthene was a freshman. The family then welcomed a new daughter, Ellen, and Arthene became a sister. Arthene was a sharp student who loved school. She was active in the community with Rainbow Girls and the 4-H Club. Her sophomore year she was introduced to Bob Loureiro and they quickly fell in love. They could talk for hours and enjoyed spending time together. They went on dates, hung out with friends, watched sports, and went on adventures. Bob even talked Arthene into water skiing! She was always willing to try new things for him. They soon were engaged to be married.

Deciding to continue their adventure, they tied the knot on May 28, 1955 in Virginia City, Nevada! They both attended college, Bob at Stockton College and Arthene at University of the Pacific. To their delight they found out they were expecting their first child.

They named him Mark Robert, after his Dad. Arthene took on the role of a loving Mother and supportive Wife. Their family continued to grow when their second child, a daughter they named Patricia Ann arrived. Once Bob completed his education they moved to Sonoma, where he started teaching at Sonoma High School. While there, they found out they were expecting their third child, a son they named Scott Kendall, after her family surname. Life became very busy with three young children. A family growing with lots of love, Arthene was always supportive of her family with a big heart.

They moved back to Escalon when Bob was offered a position at Escalon High School.

Their love story had now come full circle, back to where it all started. They loved Escalon and the life it provided for them and their family. Athene even decided to add a poodle named Jock and their family was complete! While Bob taught and coached at EHS, Arthene worked as a secretary at El Portal Middle School. Their days were filled with love, laughter, and sports! She would rub her rings together for good luck for each of them.

Eventually, Bob and Arthene felt blessed to be able to buy a cabin in Strawberry, California. She had spent summers there at her grandparent’s cabin as a child. This fostered her love of the mountains. From cross-country skiing to swimming at Pinecrest Lake, she loved it all. Strawberry became their second home, a peaceful retreat where they could continue to have their adventures. They shared their love for the lake, mountains, and railroad tracks. They discovered the history of the area and would hike to find old railroad remnants. These memories filled the Loureiro Family for decades to come. Not only for their children, but their grandchildren, and even their great-grandchildren! The cabin was part of their life for over 35 years and its memories will live on through the generations.

In Arthene’s senior years she would take many trips with Bob to Half Moon Bay. Road trips always brought a smile to her face. Between Escalon, Strawberry, and Half Moon Bay, they stayed busy. The family enjoyed hearing of their new conquests and travels at family gatherings. She led a full and happy life and her family loved her deeply. We will miss her very much and will continue to share her stories, knowledge, and special recipes. We have been sworn to secrecy for her pumpkin pie trick and will miss her rubbing her rings for good luck during games. Let us honor Arthene by filling our lifetime with love, memories, and adventure.
