The VOLT Institute is gearing up to offer a new basic program that will give entry-level workers a chance to gain foundational skills that can lead to stable, good-paying jobs.

The eight-week program, which begins on March 1, focuses on four key areas: safety; quality practices and measurement; manufacturing processes and production; and maintenance awareness. The modular courses are delivered in a blended environment, with about half of the material provided in an instructor-led, hands-on training setting, and the remainder provided through online simulation trainings provided by the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council.

This 72-hour program is offered weekly Monday through Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at VOLT Institute, which is at 1310 I St., in downtown Modesto. The objective of the training is to place students into entry level careers with local manufacturing companies after completion.

Program officials note that, best of all, the $2,500 course tuition is funded by SCOE for students who are selected from the pre-registration to enroll in the training program. Eligibility criteria requires that all applicants be at least 18 years of age with a valid high school diploma or GED as well as have a valid California driver’s license or state issued ID. Trainees must possess ninth grade math skills, 10th grade English skills, and basic computer skills to be successful in passing the course.

Students may pre-register for this program at www.voltinstitute.com/cpt.

Pre-registration deadline is 5 p.m., Friday, Feb. 19. There is a $40 non-refundable registration fee required for students accepted into the program. Individuals interested in applying for the program should contact Kevin Fox, Director of Marketing and Student Engagement for VOLT Institute at (209) 566-9102 or via email at kfox@stancoe.org.
