Escalon will host the semifinal round of the volleyball playoffs on Tuesday night, Nov. 5 with a 7 p.m. start time.
The Lady Cougars, the number two seed in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV bracket, will host number three Calaveras. Escalon shut down number seven seed West Campus, 3-0, on Oct. 31 to advance to the semifinals, while Calaveras crafted a 3-0 win over number six Woodland Christian.
The winner of the Tuesday night match will move on to the Section final, set for Saturday, Nov. 9 at a time and place to be determined.
On the other side of the bracket, the semifinals feature number four Union Mine against number nine El Dorado. Union Mine beat number five Bear River in the quarterfinals while El Dorado upset top seeded Ripon.
“Escalon enters the section semifinals for the third year in a row. The Lady Cougars are looking to break the cycle of being knocked out in the third round by defeating a very tough Calaveras team,” said coach Teresa Williamson. “If they win, Escalon will play in the championship match on Saturday, November 9. Escalon volleyball has not been in a championship match since 1998, losing to Linden High School in three straight sets.”
The team is hoping for a good turnout of fans to cheer them on during Tuesday night’s contest as they continue their quest to bring a Section banner home for the volleyball program.
