An early morning collision on Monday, Dec. 11 claimed the life of a 22-year-old from Escalon.
The California Highway Patrol investigated the crash, which occurred shortly after 4 a.m., on Lone Tree Road, west of Carrolton Road.
Authorities said at about 4:10 a.m., a 42-year-old man from Tracy was driving a 2007 Sterling feed truck westbound on Lone Tree Road, west of Carrolton. The driver slowed the truck, with the intention of making a right turn from Lone Tree Road into a private driveway.
At the same time, the CHP said, a 2014 Honda Accord was traveling westbound on Lone Tree Road at an undetermined high rate of speed, approaching the rear of the feed truck. For unknown reasons, the driver of the Honda did not or could not take evasive action, according to the CHP report, and crashed into the rear of the truck.
The San Joaquin County Coroner’s Office on Monday identified the driver as Lorenzo Serrano, 22, of Escalon. Authorities said he was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the feed truck was not injured and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.
The CHP report also indicated that it is not believed alcohol or drugs were a contributing factor in the cause of the crash. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact CHP Public Information Officer R. Jones at 209-938-4800.
