Two Annual Fundraisers Return To The Schedule

Tickets can still be purchased for a couple of local fundraisers – with the Sober Grad Tri Tip Dinner set for Saturday, March 6 and the Lions Club Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner on Saturday, March 13.

Both will be conducted in a ‘drive thru’ format this year; the Sober Grad has traditionally been conducted that way while the Lions are moving to a drive-thru as opposed to their normal sit down dinner.

Members of the Escalon High School Sober Grad Committee said while they don’t know yet what COVID-19 restrictions will allow come graduation time, they want to raise funds for this year’s senior class. Funds will go either toward putting on an end of the school year all-night Sober Grad event or will be donated directly to members of the senior class. For the Class of 2020, each senior received a gift card as part of the Sober Grad committee effort.

This year’s tri-tip drive through is set for this Saturday, March 6 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., with pick up at the Escalon Presbyterian Church, 1612 First St.

Tickets are $50 each and the meal for four features a whole barbecued tri-tip, four baked potatoes, a bag of salad, a loaf of French bread and a two-liter bottle of soda. For tickets, contact coordinator Renee Snow at 209-602-3241 or purchase them online at: https://ehs-sober-grad.square.site.

Those with tickets can drive up to the church at any time during the 90-minute delivery window and volunteers will deliver dinner curbside to your car.

The next weekend, on Saturday, March 13 from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., members of the Escalon Lions Club will be hosting their popular St. Patrick’s Day Corned Beef Dinner Fundraiser.

“After having to cancel last year’s event, we are excited to be able to again present this dinner fundraiser for the community,” said Lions Club President Mike Powers. “Because of the pandemic restrictions this is going be a drive-thru/take-out style dinner at the Community Center.”

Dinners can be picked up between 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on March 13, or until all pre-sold dinners are passed out.

“Our popular fundraising raffle prize drawings will also be available with a slightly different twist than in the past to accommodate the drive-thru aspect of the event,” Powers added.

Tickets will pre-sold for $15 a dinner. Tickets can be bought and picked up at D’Boni’s, Main Street Garage and Escalon Body and Frame. You can also order tickets by emailing a request to EscalonLionsClub@gmail.com.

“All of our fundraising efforts were cancelled last year but we are beginning to see some light at the end of this tragic pandemic tunnel,” said Powers. “We are hoping this will be the first of our fundraising events for 2021. All proceeds raised by our fundraising go towards our local charity, high school scholarships and community service endeavors.”
