Summer Recreation Programs Offered

A sure sign of summer ... the Escalon Community Pool is officially open. Hours of operation will be Monday through Saturday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and the pool opened for the summer on Monday, June 2. Cost for public swimming is $2 per person.

Along with the recreational swimming, kids can take part in the Escalon Orcas Swim Team. Participants must meet certain swimming requirements and be 18 years of age and below. Cost is $45 per child and the season kicks off on Wednesday, June 4. There will also be lap swim offered on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m., also at a cost of $2. Deep water aerobics classes return and will run Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. with occasional classes on Fridays and Saturdays. Minimum age for the class is 16 and fees are $5 per class. Swimming lessons will run in two-week sessions from June 9 through Aug. 1. Fee per session is $30 for the first child with $25 for each additional child. Adult lessons are $30 and the Mommy and Me class is $25. Deadline to register for each session is 4 p.m. on the Friday before the first Monday class.

Session 1 runs June 9 through 20; session 2, June 23 through 28 (Monday to Saturday) and June 30 to July 3 (Monday to Thursday); session 3, July 7 through 18; session 4, July 21 through Aug. 1.

Morning, noon and late afternoon sessions are offered. More information about the swim lessons and swim team is available through the city's recreation department, 838-4134.

Other recreational opportunities for the summer will include two four-week tennis clinics. Register at City Hall, the first session is June 9 through 30, second session is July 7 through 28. Golf clinics will be given at the Escalon Golf Course on Tuesdays, with session 1 from June 10 through July 1 and session 2, July 8 through July 29. Contact instructor Ryan Poling for more information, 996-5880. Also slated is a four-day basketball camp at Escalon High, June 30 through July 3. Register at City Hall. Camp will be offered for ages 7 to 10 in the morning, 9 a.m. to noon and in the afternoon for 11 to 14-year-olds, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
