The Stanislaus Wildlife Care Center celebrates spring with its annual Baby Animal Shower. There will be BBQ tri tip sandwiches, hot dogs, ice cream sundaes, face painting, T-shirts for sale, raffle drawings, kid’s crafts, rock painting and even wild barn owl pellets to dissect. The shower is scheduled Saturday April 30 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Wildlife Center inside Fox Grove Fishing Access, 1220 Geer Road, Hughson.

Come meet the volunteers and employees, the people who care for all of the 2,000-plus injured and orphaned animal the Wildlife Care Center admits each year. Also, meet their animal ambassadors, animals that couldn’t be released, and now live at the SWCC. Many of these animals travel to schools to help students learn about California native wildlife.

Spring is just starting, and officials at the center said they are just starting to admit baby songbirds, squirrels, coyotes, opossums, hawks and owls. Every day, more and more animals come in. All are encouraged to help the center by attending the Baby Animal Shower, and bringing a gift of especially needed items.

Those include: paper towels, puppy pads, postage stamps, receiving blankets, Dawn dishwashing liquid, Playtex dishwashing gloves (small and medium) and HE liquid laundry soap. Monetary donations are also welcome and the center is always looking for additional volunteers.

The Stanislaus Wildlife Care Center started in 1984, which makes this its 38th year. The center has always been completely supported by donations.
