Spring season ushers in higher pump prices

Average gasoline prices in Modesto have risen 14.5 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $4.89/gallon on April 1, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 201 stations in Modesto. Prices in Modesto are 33.7 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 34.1 cents per gallon higher than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has declined 2.9 cents in the last week and stands at $3.99 per gallon.

According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Modesto was priced at $4.49/gallon while the most expensive was $5.59, a difference of $1.10/gallon. The lowest price in the state was $3.93/gallon while the highest was $7.49, a difference of $3.56/gallon.

The national average price of gasoline was unchanged in the last week, averaging $3.51/gallon as of April 1. The national average is up 16.1 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 0.9 cents per gallon higher than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.

Neighboring areas and their current gas prices include: Stockton - $4.93/gallon, up 17.7 cents per gallon from $4.76; Oakland - $5.10, up 10.0 cents from last week’s $5.00; and San Jose - $5.09/gallon, up 12.6 cents per gallon from last week’s $4.96/gallon.

Historical gasoline prices in Modesto and the national average going back 10 years show the highest Modesto price was $5.58 per gallon on April 1, 2022 and the lowest was $2.61 on April 1, 2016. Nationwide, the highest price recorded in the past 10 years was $4.20 on April 1, 2022 and the lowest was $1.94 per gallon on April 1, 2020.
