Modesto gas prices have fallen 3.9 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.51/gallon on July 22, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 201 stations. Gas prices in Modesto are 16.5 cents per gallon lower than a month ago, yet stand 7.8 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.

According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Modesto is priced at $3.25/gallon while the most expensive is $4.09, a difference of 84.0 cents per gallon. The lowest price in the state today on July 22 was $2.95/gallon while the highest was $5.49, a difference of $2.54/gallon. The cheapest price in the entire country as of July 22 stood at $2.06 while the most expensive was $5.49, a difference of $3.43/gallon.

The national average price of gasoline has fallen 3.5 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $2.76. The national average is up 10.9 cents per gallon from a month ago, yet stands 6.7 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.

“Average U.S. gas prices drifted lower this week as oil’s downturn has picked up steam thanks to a smaller than expected decline in U.S. oil inventories and concerns remain over the strength of the U.S. economy,” said Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy.

Neighboring areas and their current gas prices include: Stockton - $3.48/gallon, down 2.5 cents per gallon from last week’s $3.51; Oakland - $3.74, down 3.8 cents from $3.78; and San Jose - $3.66, down 4.0 cents from last week’s $3.70/gallon.
