There are openings for a number of volunteers as the community gets ready for the annual Love Escalon day of service, scheduled this year for Saturday, April 13.

Organizers note that openings are available for projects including civil servant appreciation, potted plant delivery, clean up at the Escalon Youth Center, school bus washing, Escalon Museum organizing, Escalon Library book clean up, and community yard work, among others.

Many of the projects are suitable for youngsters, working with chaperones; others are doable by high school students working in teams; volunteers of all ages are being sought. The effort is designed to conclude at noon.

The Love Escalon work day will begin at 8 a.m. with a rally and welcoming meeting at the Escalon Youth Center, corner of Escalon and Yosemite, before teams head out for their projects. At the rally, Love Escalon T-shirts will be available for $5, there will be music, Starbucks coffee and breakfast treats, all volunteers will also receive a free personal pizza ticket from D’Boni’s Pizza and Escalon fire, ambulance and police personnel will attend the rally to offer support and encouragement.

The rally starts about 8:15 a.m. and then teams will fan out across the community. When projects are completed, everyone is encouraged to use their D’Boni’s coupon to share lunch together and talk about the work done in the morning.

Projects can also still be submitted, go to the website, www.loveescalon.com to suggest a project or sign up to work in one of the designated areas.
