Sign-Ups Being Taken For National Night Out
nno 23

National Night Out is fast approaching, on the schedule this year for Tuesday, Aug. 1 in Escalon.

According to the Escalon Police Department, which coordinates the event, National Night Out “is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.”

The goal is to enhance the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement personnel while also bringing back a true sense of community. Organizers are now taking sign-ups for those residents wishing to host an event or gathering in their neighborhood; Escalon first responders and city officials typically caravan to the scheduled events throughout the community.

Those interested in participating can register with the Escalon Police Department and the caravan of safety vehicles will stop by for a visit. Typically, those taking part in the site visits are members of the Police Department, City Council, city staff, and other safety personnel including Escalon Fire and Escalon Community Ambulance.

National Night Out is observed in thousands of communities across the country, in U.S. territories and on military bases worldwide the first Tuesday in August. Gatherings in Escalon range from neighborhood barbecues to ice cream socials, potlucks to gatherings with water slides and games. Hours are usually 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
