Residents in the Escalon Unified School District, EUSD, are being asked to offer their input, helping to shape the future of local education.
The EUSD will be hosting a District planning meeting in the Escalon High School theater on Thursday, March 28 at 6 p.m.
The meeting is open to all educational partners including students, parents, and community members. Each year the district is required to review and update their Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP). This year marks the start of a new LCAP cycle and the creation of a new Three-Year Plan. To assist in developing the plan, EUSD is requesting educational partner input and feedback about their schools, programs, and operations as these areas relate to the eight key priority areas defined by the state. Those priorities include, among others, parent involvement, student preparation and performance, school climate, and student engagement. In addition to the district-hosted meeting, each school hosts an LCAP Community Session as part of a scheduled School Site Council (SSC) meeting. SSC is an established committee whose meetings are all open to the public.
The LCAP was part of the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) legislation enacted in 2013 with the purpose of giving school districts greater local control. As part of the LCAP process, the state identified eight key priority areas that must be addressed within the goals of each district’s LCAP. For each goal, districts are required to identify specific actions and services and the corresponding budgetary allocation that will be implemented in support of that goal. Each year as part of the LCAP review process, districts must review these actions and services and provide an accounting of how the allocated funds were spent. Additionally, a new three-year LCAP must be developed for implementation in subsequent years.
At the District planning meeting on March 28, District officials will review three proposed goals, and solicit feedback from educational partners related to proposed actions and services. For each goal, facilitators will share districtwide progress, challenges, and supporting data. Educational partners in attendance will be asked to provide input and feedback. This information will then be included in the LCAP development process.
