It’s shaping up to be a busy weekend in Escalon; the first weekend in October features the citywide yard sale on Saturday, Oct. 3 and the return of the popular Harvest on Main event on Sunday, Oct. 4.

The citywide sale features dozens of yard sales throughout the area, some inside the city limits and some in the county area of Escalon. Maps will be available outside City Hall on McHenry Avenue as well as on the City of Escalon Facebook page to aid shoppers, with sales opening up officially at 8 a.m. Saturday and running through 2 p.m.

And while the yard sales bring in people from throughout the region, Sunday’s Harvest on Main has become a favorite of local residents and is being hosted this year by the Escalon Lions Club in the city’s Main Street Park.

It will be offered from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4.

“Harvest on Main is a free, family-friendly community event celebrating the fall season and bringing families and local businesses together for an afternoon of fun in downtown Escalon,” said Lions Club member and event coordinator Megan McNinch.

Activities will include free pumpkins for kids and decorating stations set up to encourage the young artists to prepare their pumpkins for Halloween; a costume contest at the Main Street stage at 2 p.m., with five different age categories, from birth up to 18-years old.

“We will have trick-or-treating at the non-food vendor booths,” McNinch added. “Each vendor will have a bucket of candy for kids to trick or treat at each booth.”

Over 30 vendors are expected to participate and bring in a variety of merchandise.

The food court will be open for business as well with options including Tacos De Nieve, Da’ Pizza ‘Xperience, Hangry Dogz, Fluffy Dreams Cotton Candy, Kona Ice, Scoop A Bowl (sorbet), Okey Dokey Donuts, as well as Lemonade Express, Refresca by Fina, and Rise and Shine Coffee.

“And there will be more family-friendly activities throughout the afternoon, with small games and free prizes for the kids,” said McNinch. “A big thank you to Van Groningen and Sons for their continued support and Swift Lawn and Garden.”

Also, the Miss Escalon Court will be helping at the event and judging the costume contest.

All are encouraged to attend and celebrate the arrival of the fall harvest season.

“The event is being hosted by the Escalon Lions Club, and we’re looking forward to another fun afternoon for the community,” McNinch said.
