Regional ACS Relay Calls On Team Captains
rfl

The first meeting of the new ‘Relay year’ is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 24 at the North Modesto Church of God, 1918 Sherwood Ave., Modesto.

This year will mark the second Relay For Life of Greater Stanislaus County and it will again be hosted at John Thurman Field in Modesto, with an early October date. The 2021 American Cancer Society event saw the consolidation of events in Modesto, Oakdale and Turlock into one large Relay, which went back to the 24-hour format. Escalon, Riverbank and Waterford, which were part of the Oakdale Relay For Life in recent years, are also part of the Greater Stanislaus County event.

All those who served as team captains for 2021, and anyone who would like to be involved in 2022, is encouraged to attend the upcoming meeting. The session is set for 6:30 p.m.

Along with learning more about the event itself – again anticipating a 24-hour Relay – those attending the Team Captain meeting will have an opportunity to help decide on a theme.

Options under consideration are: Outer Space, Western, Grease/’50s, and Carnival. Date and time for a formal kickoff event will be discussed at the Team Captain meeting as well.

Also, a Spring Craft Fair is being planned at the church for Saturday, March 19 to serve as a fundraiser for the 2022 Relay. Those wishing to purchase booth space can get a 10-by-10 booth for $40 and are asked to provide a prize for drawings; proceeds from the booth fees and ticket sales for drawings are split between the American Cancer Society and the North Modesto Church of God.
