Just in time for the Halloween holiday, ‘Spooking Poisonous Plants’ is the topic for the next meeting of the Oakdale Garden Club, set for Tuesday, Oct. 20.

UC Master Gardener Coordinator, Anne Schellman, will be the guest speaker. She has always had a keen interest in plants, animals, and nature. She credits her grandfather for her love of plants, and Modesto Junior College for helping her discover a career in horticulture. Schellman graduated from Cal Poly State University at San Luis Obispo with a degree in environmental horticultural science, and a master’s degree in community development from UC Davis. She worked for University of California for over 10 years. She has been the UC Master Gardener Coordinator since 2018.

In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family, gardening, exercising, playing with her two cats, and watching Korean dramas.

Those attending the Oct. 20 meeting will also hear more about the club’s successful Annual Autumn Garden Tour, which took place on Saturday, Oct. 3. There were five unique gardens throughout Oakdale, each showcasing the creativity and talents of local homeowners.

The Oakdale Garden Club’s monthly meeting is set Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 10 a.m. at the Community Methodist Church, 1480 Poplar St., Oakdale. New members are always welcome to join and learn more about gardening in the community. For more information, visit https://OakdaleGardenClub.org or on Facebook.
