Park Fete Fun Scheduled This Weekend In Escalon

There will be carnival rides for the kids this weekend in Escalon, as the city hosts its annual Park Fete celebration, Friday and Saturday, July 12 and 13.

The community of Escalon will host its annual Park Fete celebration this weekend, with festivities kicking off on Friday, July 12 and continuing all day on Saturday, July 13.

Vendor booths and the kids carnival area with rides, games and fair-style fun foods will open up at 4 p.m. on Friday, July 12 along the city’s Main Street and around the park area. There will also be a variety of vendors with food and beverages, merchandise, information and more. The booths open for the day on Saturday at 9 a.m. with the Park Fete parade stepping off at 11 a.m. Saturday; Grand Marshal this year is Marg Jackson, editor for The Oakdale Leader, The Riverbank News and The Escalon Times.

Saturday features special activities for kids as well, with stick horse races, a chalk art contest, kids corral with arts and crafts and more. The Escalon Grange Hall will have stations set up with retro-style gaming for teens and young adults to enjoy.

Ravioli the Clown will perform in the Kids Corral at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Weekend activities will also include the Police Department cornhole tournament, the annual Park Fete Runs and the popular horseshoe tournament.

The cornhole tournament is set for Friday, July 12 with the competition starting at 6:30 p.m.

You can pre-register online now at cityofescalon.org or register the day of the tourney. Online pre-registration will be accepted through noon on Thursday, July 11 at a cost of $30 per team; day of registration runs from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, July 12 with a cost of $40 per team. Proceeds benefit the Escalon Police Reserves and Explorers units and there is a limit of 42 teams.

Registration is also on now for the Escalon Park Fete 2-mile and 10k runs, set for Saturday, July 13. The 10k starts at 7:15 a.m.; the 2-mile starts at 7:30 a.m. and there will be post-run refreshments for all participants. Awards and a raffle will be held following each race as well. Race day packet pick up begins at 6:30 a.m. and race day registration also opens at 6:30 a.m. and closes 30 minutes before each race. Shadowchase Running Club is again hosting the event; log on to their website for more information or to complete an online registration form. This race is part of the Shadowchase 4 Race series. Cost is $35 for the 2-mile, $40 for the 10k; price is $25 for kids under 19 in either race. The online registration is available at Runsignup.com or call for more information, 209-324-2089.

The Escalon Lions Club is once again presenting the annual Park Fete Horseshoe Tournament on Saturday, July 13 at 12 p.m. at Main Street Park, 1771 Main St., in Escalon. Registration on the 13th begins at 11 a.m. at the horseshoe pit area. The tourney will have a double elimination format and is open to all comers. Entertainment is planned throughout the weekend as well, with the Park Fete closing down at 11 p.m. both Friday and Saturday.
