A new slate of student body officers at Escalon High School is eager to get the year started off on the right foot.

They will get that chance when they host their first rally on Friday, Aug. 28 and the group of seniors said they are determined to work together to make school spirit a focus.

"This year one of our major goals is to get more people involved," said Student Body President Lindsey Anderson. "We want to make sure everyone has a say."

Anderson said she views the student body officers' role as being a liaison between students and staff, working to make the school experience a good one for all.

"We have some new ideas, some new things planned," Anderson added.

The group is working under the leadership of teacher and coach Rusty Fachner and Anderson said he has high expectations for the group, which they aim to meet.

"We want to bring a new spirit to the table," agreed Steven Silva, one of a trio of Directors of Student Body Activities (DSBA), who will handle much of the planning for events such as rallies, assemblies and dances.

"We're raising the bar," added DSBA Zac Baker.

The first rally of the new school year will be on Friday, Aug. 28 starting at 2:40 p.m. and there will also be an orientation dance for all grade levels, freshmen though seniors, on Friday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the tennis courts adjacent to the school.

All members of the student body team said they plan to use good taste when planning events, making sure they are fun but appropriate.

"We're looking forward to it," said Nick Largent.

Treasurer Kaitlyn Brayton said it will be fun to work with students she has known since starting school in Escalon.

"We're all friends but we know we have to get things done," Brayton said.

Alex Beeler serves as Secretary for the group and Vice President Spencer Franceschetti is actually doing double duty, working as a student body officer and also serving as the student liaison to the school board.

"I'll present some information to the board on what's going on with the students," Franceschetti said of his role in reporting to the board on a regular basis. "We're also hoping to get some new things passed, maybe in the area of school beautification."
