esc love 426

Joining with other communities throughout the Central Valley and beyond, Escalon will be the site for the annual community day of service on Saturday, April 29.

Love Escalon is on the schedule from 8 a.m. to noon, with participants first gathering for a kickoff rally near the stage in the city’s Main Street Park. Following the rally, crews will spread out across the city to handle a number of projects.

Sign-ups for the various efforts are still being taken, log on to the Escalon Chamber of Commerce website at escalonchamberofcommerce.org to register and choose your project.

There is a work day planned at Almond Grove, helping residents around the manufactured housing community on the city’s east end with small repairs and improvements to their property. Also planned is a clean-up project at the city’s C.A.R.E., Community Action Resources of Escalon, food pantry on Second Street. General cleaning and organization are the goals of that project.

Volunteers are needed for repairing and getting planter boxes ready for vegetables and flowers, the boxes are on the campus of Dent Elementary School on Yosemite Avenue. Workers for this project are asked to bring their own gardening gloves.

From 10 a.m. to noon, volunteers are needed to help at Happy Artists Creative Studio on McHenry to host crafting activities for kids.

A trash pick-up along Highway 120 is scheduled and volunteers are needed for that effort. Dusting shelves and organizing books is the project at Escalon Library, while crews are needed to help beautify the downtown area by planting flowers in the Main Street planter boxes. Hogan Park picnic tables are due to be painted and volunteers are needed to help run the Senior Bingo games, being put on in the Escalon Library Ekholm Meeting Room, beginning at 10 a.m.

These are just a few of the community service projects available. Families are encouraged to sign up to work together as part of the Love Escalon team. All projects are scheduled to conclude at noon.
