Local Runners Fare Well In Park Fete Races

Escalon's Shane Brookshire took first place honors in the Park Fete 10K run on Saturday, while Riverbank resident Mike Boyer was the first across the line in the 2-mile event.

Those on top of the leader board in the various age categories also included young Leone Rivers of Escalon, high school cross country standout Josh Vandagriff and EHS grad Michelle Stuyt.

Some 250 runners lined up for the runs early Saturday morning, with crews from the ShadowChase Running Club checking in the runners, lining the 10K course for water breaks and keeping track of times. The race started at 7:30 a.m. and Boyer ran the 2-mile course in 11:27, claiming the top spot in his age division and the overall title. Escalon High's Josh Vandagriff was third overall with a time of 12:15.

Winners by age group in the 2-mile were:

Female 12 and under - Leone Rivers, Escalon, 18:18; Male 12 and under - Angel Alveraz, Modesto, 14:55.

Female 13 to 19 - Michelle Stuyt, Escalon, 20:00; Male 13 to 19 - Joshua Vandagriff, Escalon, 12:15.

Female 20 to 29 - Elizabeth Miranda, 13:50; Male 13 to 19 - Brad Rowell, 13:27.

Female 30 to 39 - Amy Jorgensen, Riverbank, 16:39; Male 30 to 39 - Chris Harp, 12:36.

Female 40 to 49 - Michelle Bedell, 18:00; Male 40 to 49 - Mike Boye, Riverbank, 11:27.

Female 50 to 59 - Vicky Boyd, Modesto, 12:44; Male 50 to 59 - Derek Castle, 12:11.

Female 60 to 69 - Carlena Rowell, Oakdale, 21:41; Male 60 to 69 - Gerry Holmes, Murphys, 13:17.

Female 70 and over - Marge Price, Escalon, 32:33; Male 70 and over - John Utne, 26:34.

Top placers in the 10K included Brian Munoz in the Male 12 and under category, with a time of 49:54. There were no 12 and under female runners in the race.

Other age group winners were:

Female 13 to 19 - Shannon Peters, 42:59; Male 13 to 19 - Ramon Alcaraz, 38:12.

(This category also featured several Escalon runners, with Amanda Moreno, Kelly Irons, Amanda Franklin, Hailey Homen and Jaimey Homen taking the fourth through eighth place spots in the female category, respectively. Clancy Casteel of Escalon was third for the males, Matt Heflin fourth.)

Female 30 to 39 - Berklee Akutagawa, Manteca, 42:19; Male 30 to 39 - Agustin Campus, 37:37.

Female 40 to 49 - Glorybelle Lillie, Turlock, 43:31; Male 40 to 49 - Edward Haack, 38:37.

Female 50 to 59 - Lynn Coble, Waterford, 58:51; Male 50 to 59 - Daniel Garcia, 41:43.

Female 60 to 69 - Barbara Elia, Modesto, 59:27; Male 60 to 69 - Rudy Rodriguez, 55:50.

Female 70 and over - Chiyo Shingu, Stockton, 1:03.05; Male 70 and over - Joe Rozelle, 1:29.55.
