A morning parade, a memorial service and a barbecue luncheon will all be part of Escalon’s annual Veterans’ Day activities on Friday, Nov. 11.

The day to salute veterans for their service and sacrifice is scheduled to start with a downtown parade on Main Street, stepping off at 10:30 a.m.

Escalon American Legion Post 263 Adjutant Vince Giovaniello is in charge of the parade and said those planning to attend will enjoy a wide variety of entries, with community groups and organizations among those featured.

Following the parade, which traditionally includes a flag ceremony at the historic caboose in the city’s Main Street Park, the gathering will adjourn to the Community Center. There, a brief service will be staged at the Memorial Wall adjacent to the center. The day will be wrapped up with a chicken barbecue, available for eat-in at the Community Center or for take-out, with tickets available from Legion members or at the door. The barbecue will be served from noon to 3 p.m.

Also, Escalon High School is hosting a special program to honor local veterans on Thursday, Nov. 10 in the new gym at 2 p.m. and have issued an invitation to veterans and community residents to join them.
