A late afternoon accident along Santa Fe Road between Escalon and Riverbank sent the driver to the hospital and started a grass fire.
Stockton CHP, San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Deputies, Stanislaus Consolidated Fire and Escalon Fire Department were all on the scene of the crash, which occurred around 5 p.m. Friday, May 25.
Authorities were still investigating to determine why the car went off the road but a CHP officer on scene said witnesses to the crash helped the driver out of the car, which went off the roadway and into a grassy field. The car caught on fire, spreading to the grass.
The driver had unknown injuries but was taken to a Modesto hospital.
