Taking a three game set from Dixon, two games to one, Escalon’s varsity baseball boys will play for the Sac-Joaquin Section Division 5 title on Memorial Day.

The game will see top seed Escalon take on number two seed Capital Christian in a battle of the Cougars at Tony Zupo Field in Lodi. Game time is 3 p.m.

For Escalon, they will be facing a familiar foe.

“Our old nemesis, Capital Christian,” said Escalon head coach Greg Largent, noting that it was the Capital Christian Cougars who ended Escalon’s three-year reign as Section champions. Escalon won consecutive crowns in 2010, 2011 and 2012 before being de-throned by Capital Christian in 2013. Capital also won it in 2014, 2015 and 2016, so this time, the Escalon Cougars look to take down the four-time defending champ.

Escalon cruised to an easy opening game win over Dixon in the semifinal series on Saturday, May 20 but then battled the Rams in a pair of 1-0 games, losing the first and winning the second, on Wednesday, May 24 to advance to the final.
