Ultra Violet Light To Battle Aliens
aauw

Aliens are among us and they have invaded our waterways. Not aliens from outer space but aquatic invasive weeds, specifically Eurasian watermilfoil, which have been introduced into our lakes and other waterways by boats, trailers, aquariums and other means. But, a local company, Inventive Resources Inc., is working to eradicate these pests.

On Thursday, Feb. 8, AAUW member Evangelina Paoluccio, a graduate of University of the Pacific and the Engineering Manager at Inventive Resources Inc., will talk to American Association of University Women (AAUW) Oakdale-Riverbank-Escalon Branch members and guests about a pilot project the company is involved in at Lake Tahoe to tackle the problem. Paoluccio, a civil engineer, was instrumental in attaining grant money to test a vessel her engineer husband, John, designed, which uses non-chemical Ultra Violet light to kill the invasive aquatic plants in the heavily infested marina. In addition to talking about this project she will talk about her community involvement with school children. Last February she received the distinguished service award from the San Joaquin Engineer’s Council for her volunteer work with middle school children to instill and motivate them to pursue careers in engineering. The dinner meeting begins at 6 p.m. at Papapolloni Bistro at 1214 W. F St., in Oakdale. Reservations are needed. Those interested in attending may call (209) 847-0271 for information and directions.
