A St. Patrick’s Day tradition in Escalon, the annual Escalon Lions Club Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner was served up to a large crowd at the city’s Community Center on Thursday, March 15.

Club members got busy early in the day to cook up hundreds of pounds of corned beef and get the potatoes on to boil, with the cabbage also adding to the aromas wafting along Escalon Avenue.

Doors opened for a no-host bar social hour at 6 p.m., with attendees also able to take a chance on a number of raffle prizes, with local accordion player Gene Bartolomei providing the entertainment. The sit-down dinner was served at 7 p.m. and those that preferred could also ‘drive thru’ to pick up their dinners to go, with Lions Club members delivering the meals.

Officials said it was another successful event, with funds raised helping to support a variety of club programs and scholarships. Well over 200 dinners were served, in addition to the take-out meals.
