The EHS Track and Field team competed Wednesday, April 11 against Hughson in their second league meet of the year. Both teams traveled to Ripon to use their facility.
“Hughson’s new track is under construction and Escalon’s is in such poor condition that they can’t use it to compete on,” explained Coach Carrie Nash.
Both the Cougar boys and girls went toe to toe with their opponent but could not pull off a victory. The girl’s team lost 66.5-69.5 and the boys lost 61-66 in the closely contested meet.
“They were disappointing losses, but we had some holes in our line-up that day,” Nash noted.
Senior Christian Brunetti sat out nursing an ankle injury.
“Not having Brunetti hurt us; he is the league’s leading triple jumper, ranked third overall in the long jump and anchors the 4x100,” Nash explained. “On the lady’s side, there were few events where we just barely missed a scoring place and just came up short in the end. We have a young team that works hard and learns from their losses, and that’s what is important as we move forward through the season.”
