A Sunday afternoon drowning in Escalon claimed the life of a 2-year-old, the toddler found in the family pool in the 2300 block of Spring Drive shortly before 4:30 p.m.

Police, fire and ambulance personnel were called to the scene about 4:22 p.m. on July 7, with police officers arriving first. Family members told police they had been swimming in the doughboy-style pool and somehow, the toddler was left behind when everyone else got out. When they discovered he was not with them, family members went back and found the boy at the bottom of the pool. Police officers arriving on the scene began CPR, with fire and ambulance crews arriving shortly thereafter and assisting with the resuscitation efforts. The CPR continued in the ambulance on the way to Doctors Hospital in Modesto but officials said the boy could not be revived.

The case remains under investigation and authorities had not released the name of the young victim by press time for The Times on Tuesday.
