Escalon Police were called to Escalon High School on Thursday, to a report of a student receiving a message via Instagram connected to the “Killer Clown” craze sweeping across the country.

A post on the department’s Facebook indicated “On the morning of 10/6/2016, it was brought to the attention of the Escalon Police Department that a specific threat was made against Escalon High School via Instagram. The posting stated that a subject would be coming to Escalon High School to kill students.”

Authorities said it appeared to be linked to the “Killer Clown” craze, but was taken seriously. Officers responded to the scene and some were briefly posted at entrances to the school while other officers conducted an invesgitation.

“The Instagram account and posting were traced back to a 16 year old Vista High School student, who will not be named,” the department stated in a press release. “Detective Hardgraves arrested the student, who was subsequently booked into the San Joaquin County Juvenile Hall for making terrorist threats and causing a false emergency to be reported.”
