The annual Arts Alive event hosted in the old gym on the Escalon High School campus saw hundreds of pieces of artwork on display.

“Every school is represented, every elementary, the middle school, the high school,” said EHS art teacher Jewell Kelley.

Every grade level also contributes to the show and the week features daily tours of the show from the various schools, with students also having the chance to enjoy some hands-on art activities during their visit. That means they have several art projects to take home at the end of the tour.

New this year, Kelley had several of her art students ‘in residence’ and painting in the gym while students took the tour, providing an up close look at art being created. Art Club students also were adding to a joint project as part of the Arts Alive festivities.

“Some things we keep the same, we know the kids want the spin art and face painting,” Kelley added of the activities. “But we try to do new things each year.”

One night is also set aside for the community to come in and view the artwork and this year included a bake sale to help raise scholarship funds.

Kelley said they would like more people to attend the Open House night, to see the talent of the young artists.

During the weeklong show, she added, having the students come in from other campuses is a highlight of the event.

“I love to see how excited the kids are when they see their artwork on the walls,” Kelley said.
