Escalon High School graduate and former standout Cougar baseball player, Patrick Mulry, has another accolade to add to his collection.

He was selected as a Rawlings Gold Glove recipient in NCAA Division II by the American Baseball Coaches Association, receiving the impressive piece of hardware recently for his efforts on behalf of Stanislaus State in Turlock.

Only nine Gold Glove awards – one for each position – were presented for athletes in Division II across the country and Mulry was the only California recipient. Others honored played for NCAA Division II colleges in New York, Mississippi, Missouri, Arkansas, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and two in Georgia. Mulry played center field for Stan State, transferring there after first attending classes and playing baseball at Modesto Junior College. He majored in Business at Stanislaus.

“It couldn’t happen to a better guy,” said EHS varsity baseball coach Greg Largent. “He’s a hard worker, a great baseball player but an even better person.”
