Farmington Firefighters Ready To Fill The Boot

A little later in the year than usual, Farmington firefighters have scheduled their ‘Fill the Boot’ effort for the long Labor Day holiday weekend.

Donations made during the four-day collection will benefit the Firefighters Burn Institute in Sacramento, helping provide programs and services to burn victims and survivors.

Usually held over Presidents’ Day weekend in February, the local department had to postpone this year’s effort and decided to go with the final holiday weekend of the summer. Stationed outside the Farmington firehouse at the intersection of Highway 4 and Escalon-Bellota Road, the Sept. 2 through 5 collection will run roughly from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

“I’m hoping we get about 13 volunteers,” Fire Chief Conni Bailey said of rotating shifts to collect the donations in turnout boots over the four-day period.

Farmington has always seen a successful collection for the burn institute, positioned along a busy stretch of highway, especially with weekend holiday traffic.
