DRIVING FORCE
VISTA

Kicking off the first in a new series of alumni presentations for students at Vista High School, truck driver Stephanie ‘D.J.’ Halbert, left, was on hand Thursday morning to provide an overview of her career, including how she got started in the business, some of the perks and pitfalls of the job, the training required and the job opportunities. Vista officials said they want to bring back Vista graduates who have gone on to establish themselves in careers to help current students see the wide variety of options for them after graduation. Halbert, a 2012 graduate, works for a trucking firm based in Oakdale and transports primarily construction materials. She has a home base, so she drives each day, but gets to go home each night. Still, she averages about a 55-hour work week.
