Starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, Escalon will welcome shoppers into the community for a full day of seeking treasures in the annual City Wide Yard Sale day.

“We advertise it from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. but usually people are poking around when the sun comes up,” said Deputy City Clerk Diana Trejo. “Sign-ups were due Oct. 1, we usually have 110 to 115.”

All the addresses where the sales are planned will be printed on a map, which will be available at multiple locations around town beginning Thursday, Oct. 3.

“I was at 75 (sign-ups) this morning and had about 20 more calls today,” Trejo said on Monday, with the listings approaching the 100 mark.

The bulk of the sales are individual family yard or garage sales, though there are some churches and other organizations pinpointed on the map as well.

“We have Escalon Covenant Church at 1155 Escalon Avenue that will be participating,” Trejo said. “The Escalon High School Band Boosters will have a sale set up in the parking lot on the Escalon-Bellota Road side of the school; Escalon Masonic Lodge at 1500 Viking is on the list, Escalon Presbyterian Church at 1612 First Street.”

Those were the organizations that had signed up to be on the map as of press time for The Times, though more could be added before the map went to press.

Trejo said people really seem to enjoy coming in for the day, and the sale typically draw shoppers from Sonora, the Bay area, Stockton, Oakdale and beyond.

“They come from all over,” she said.

In some cases, the sales benefit a group, service club or charitable organization and others are simply families taking the opportunity for some fall cleaning and earning some extra cash.

There is a slight fee to be listed on the map, which goes to help pay for advertising the sale. Trejo said multiple newspapers around the region carried ads for the citywide sale, in addition to listings on 10 radio stations in the region.

“The map will also be on our City of Escalon website,” said Trejo.

Other locations around the community will feature the map, including Big Boy Market, MarVal Main Street Market, Pizza Plus, D’Boni’s and more. It will also be available at City Hall.
