Riverbank welcomes the REO Speechtrain Toastmasters Club for regular meetings every Wednesday morning from 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. at Perko’s Cafe, Patterson and Oakdale roads, Riverbank. This is a fun way to learn the self-confidence and skills needed for public speaking. All are invited to come and check out the group. The next meeting will be Wednesday, Nov. 30. Make plans to attend the next Toddler/Preschool Storytime at the Escalon Library, 1540 Second St., scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 1 at 10:30 a.m. On Tuesdays, the drop in knitting group is open to all with an interest in the craft; bring your own materials and enjoy knitting and socialization from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Also, the Senior Gentle Exercise Class is open to local seniors every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., in the Ekholm Meeting room at the library, focusing on strength and flexibility.

The City of Escalon along with the San Joaquin Council of Governments is sponsoring an unmet transit needs public hearing to hear comments regarding how transit services can be provided better in Escalon and to other areas in San Joaquin County. This hearing is held on an annual basis. Once transit needs are met, the Transportation Development Act (TDA) funding that is used to operate and maintain eTrans is then distributed to fund roadway, bicycle and pedestrian projects within the city limits. The hearing will be held on Monday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m., at the Escalon City Hall, 2060 McHenry Ave., Escalon.

The Escalon Police Department’s Reserve Unit is planning a ‘Sweet December Dinner and Dessert Auction’ on Friday, Dec. 9 at the Escalon Community Center. Cocktails are from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m., with the auction to follow. Tickets may be purchased at Escalon City Hall or the Escalon Police Department. Ticket prices are $20 per person, purchased before Dec. 5; $25 per person purchased at the door. The Stanislaus Senior Foundation will host its Annual Holiday Fundraiser on Friday, Dec. 9 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event will be held at the historic McHenry Museum, 1402 I St., Modesto. Hors d’oeuvres, wine and a silent auction will be offered for those in attendance. Tickets are $40 each and can be purchased on line at www.stanislausseniorfoundation.org or by calling 848-2635.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) Stockton Area is once again participating in the annual CHiP’s for Kids toy drive and distribution. Every year the CHP Stockton Area partners with local groups and organizations to collect and distribute toys to children in need. The CHP Stockton Area is asking anyone who is willing to donate to bring a new, unwrapped toy to the CHP Stockton Area office at 2720 N. Wilcox Road, Stockton, CA 95215 between now and Dec. 17, 2016. . The goal of this program is to reach out to as many families as possible within our communities and help bring joy and happiness to those less fortunate. Last year more than 3000 toys, stuffed animals and games were collected and distributed. This year the local CHP will try to collect and distribute even more.

Soroptimist International of Oakdale is seeking Junior Class girls to participate in the Distinguished Young Women of Oakdale for the Class of 2018 scholarship program. Over $6,000 in college scholarships and the Distinguished Young Woman of Oakdale title will be awarded at the program to be held March 11, 2017 at Magnolia School Auditorium.
