A packed house greeted Santa Claus on Friday night in Farmington, as the man in the red suit made his traditional appearance at the firehouse.
Children from throughout the area came to spend a few minutes with Santa to share their holiday wishes, while their parents had the chance to visit and enjoy refreshments, including a wide selection of homemade cookies and treats.
“We planned for 150,” said Farmington Fire Chief Conni Bailey, noting that the evening includes small gifts for all children.
This year, she said, they went a slightly different route in that all attendees received crayons, a coloring book and a candy cane.
“We had stuffed animals for the small babies but from little to big (kids), everybody loves to color,” Bailey said.
Fire Department volunteers assisted with the distribution of the coloring books. Children waited in line to have a chance to visit with Santa and have their picture taken with him.
Mom Maria Lopez had daughters Juliana, 10, Victoria, 6, and Myra, 4, with her as they attended the festive event.
“It’s our first time coming here,” said the Farmington resident.
Juliana said she enjoyed visiting with Santa, while her younger sisters also smiled broadly as they shared their holiday wishes with him.
Any items not distributed at the Friday night gathering are donated to help other area programs meet holiday needs, said Bailey.
