Going strong for nearly three decades, the annual Spaghetti Supper served up at the Escalon United Methodist Church once again played to a full house on Saturday night.

“We usually serve between 230 and 250 people,” said event chair Gail Cardoza. “About 80 to 100 of those are take outs.”

The dinner features all-you-can-eat spaghetti with sauce, salad, French bread, beverages and an ice cream cup for dessert.

“We make the sauce, we use our local tomato products, buy our local Big Boy meat, we want to patronize the community that supports us,” Cardoza added.

The recipe for the homemade sauce is one that her late husband, Cal, perfected and is the same one that has been used for several years at the popular mid-winter dinner.

Along with the eat in and take out dinners being served, one corner of the church meeting room was set up with the homemade jams and jellies made by members of the congregation, available to purchase and take home.

Proceeds of the event support a variety of church programs and help with the general upkeep of the facility.

Hours for the dinner were 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Jan. 27 and after a bit of a slow start, business picked up and servers were kept busy for the duration of the event.
