The third Saturday in October has become known for the annual Chili Cook-Off hosted at the Escalon American Legion Post 263.
This year’s event is set for Saturday, Oct. 17 and will feature a number of homemade chili entries, with a panel of judges brought on board to sample them and select a winner along with a couple of runner-up honors.
The chili will be the focal point of the Legion Post’s community dinner night, with other side dishes, desserts and beverages offered in addition to the wide variety of chili options.
Community members are welcome to attend; monetary donations are accepted for the dinner but not required.
Legion officials host several third Saturday night dinners throughout the year at the post rooms on Second Street, as a way to thank residents for their support of various Legion fundraisers and events during the year. Other popular themes are fish fry night, Italian night, soups and stews, and more.
Serving begins at 5 p.m. and those planning to attend are advised to get there at the start, as the post typically fills up fast with diners.
The Legion Post is at 1531 Second St., Escalon.
