Join In For Festive Christmas On Main

Saturday, Dec. 4 is the date for the annual Escalon Chamber of Commerce Christmas on Main celebration.

Festivities will begin at 3 p.m. in the city’s Main Street Park and weather forecasters are predicting a typical early December day, with temperatures hovering around the low 60s during the day and dropping to about 40 for the evening.

There is no rain in the forecast, so organizers are hoping for a big crowd to turn out to officially usher in the holiday season.

Booths in and around the park will be open from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.; there will be performances on stage by the Escalon High School Choir at 3:30 p.m. and Powerhouse Dance Studio at 4:30 p.m.

There will also be a Giving Trees raffle and the festive Parade of Lights steps off at 5:30 p.m.

Santa is due to arrive about 6 p.m., when he will make a stop on the Main Street stage to visit with youngsters, hear their Christmas wishes and pose for photos.

The vendor booths will feature a variety of items, many perfect for gift giving, and there will be crafts for kids as well as holiday music.

For those that want to take part in the parade, entries must have some sort of holiday lighting. Awards will be presented to the top three entries. Candy can be thrown but organizers ask that none of the floats have a Santa on board as the Chamber brings him to the festivities.

If you need additional information about getting involved in the parade, contact Robert Swift at 209-595-5013 or email arswift@sbcglobal.net. Line up for the parade begins at the corner of Third and Coley at 4:45 p.m. and the parade will step off at 5:30 p.m., first traveling on Coley, turning on to First Street and then on to Main.
