In a five-way race for three four-year terms on the Escalon City Council, Andrew Hagan had the lead with 830 votes, according to figures available Wednesday from the San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters office.
The vote totals – not yet finalized – show the voter turnout in Sn Joaquin County was under 21 percent. Hagan had polled 29.91 percent of the vote, followed by Jeremy Engle with 551 votes for 19.86 percent and incumbent longtime councilman Ed Alves with 534 votes for 19.24 percent. Malinda Walker had 18.31 percent of the vote, 508 ballots cast for her, while incumbent Peter Krumeich was running a distant fifth, 352 votes for 12.68 percent.
Four candidates were seeking a short-term, two-year post on the council. Leading that race was Shawn Strohman, 398 votes for 38.16 percent. Close behind was Elsa Sandoval, 357 votes for 34.23 percent; Kurt Danziger at 200 votes for 19.18 percent and Sherry Hill, 88 votes for 8.44 percent.
In the race for South San Joaquin Irrigation District Division I, incumbent Robert ‘Bob’ Holmes trailed challenger David L. Roos, with Roos receiving 1,596 votes for 55.17 percent; Holmes receiving 1,297 votes for 44.83 percent.
Again, vote totals are not finalized; the Registrar of Voters continues the count and has up to 30 days to certify the totals.
