Well known artist Chella Gonsalves will also be participating in this show. She has been a longtime supporter of this show and a member of VAA.
Born in Indiana and a graduate of Ball State University with a BS in Art Education, Gonsalves came to Modesto in September 1956. For 27 years she taught art in the Modesto City Schools District; also through Delta Junior College adult education programs and privately. Over the years, she has received honors including ones through California Art Educators Association and Stanislaus County Commission for Women. Now retired, she is pursuing a career in the professional visual art world, doing non-objective, mixed media, drawing, and specializing in ‘en plein’ oil painting.
In 2008 two of her small ‘en plein air’ works and one of her large non-objective pieces was awarded third place in an annual Yosemite Renaissance Exhibition. Corporations, such as Fireman’s Fund, Kaiser Permanente, Lodi Memorial Hospital and private investors have acquired her works. She was honored to be the Artist-in-Residence, Yosemite National Park in 2002. See her work on her website www.chellaartist.com
Local residents are also invited to exhibit their artwork to family, friends and the general public. As long as artwork is appropriate for family/public viewing and follows the presentation rules, it will be on display at the show. All entry funds raised go to the VAA Art Scholarship Fund.
