Go Red For Women Event On Friday
go red

February is Heart Month and Go Red on Friday, Feb. 5 is National Wear Red and Give Day. Despite the devastating toll of COVID-19, heart disease remains the number one cause of death in the U.S and worldwide. February is American Heart Month, a time when the nation turns its attention to keeping families and communities free from heart disease.

Join in on Friday for National Wear Red and Give Day to raise awareness to fight heart disease and stroke.

Here are some ways to show support:

Visit the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women Movement on Facebook for a free digital celebration. Throughout the day, they will post informative and fun videos on how to support heart health.

Wear red and do something good for your heart. Post a selfie on social media and tag @AHANorthernCA (Facebook/Instagram) or @AHACalifornia (Twitter) and include the hashtags #WearRedDay and #GoRedModesto or #209HasHeart.

Light the exterior of your business or company building in red to show support and be included in AHA’s promotions to local media and on social media.

Host a fundraiser and engage family, friends, and colleagues in raising support for research and education to prevent and treat heart disease and stroke. People can also make a personal donation at WearRedDay.org.

Have your blood pressure checked or schedule a check-up with your doctor to discuss ways to reduce your risk of cardiovascular diseases.

National sponsor for the Go Red for Women initiative is CVS Health and local sponsor is Sutter Health Heart & Vascular Institute.

Local organizers said they have “an amazing new leadership opportunity” for women and teen girls in the 209. The new Stockton-Modesto Women of Impact is a perfect chance to make a big impact in health and wellness, drive awareness of cardiovascular disease in women, support the life-saving, mission-critical work of the AHA, and have fun with your friends and family while doing it. They are looking for change makers and leaders to join the inaugural class of Women of Impact and are actively recruiting nominees now. Contact Katie Malone for more information and to learn if this program is right for you. E-mail Katie.Malone@heart.org or call/text 209-598-8220.

The Executive Leadership Team has worked closely with the Event Chair and the Go Red for Women Director to ensure the movement meets its goals this February.

Other options for involvement include the Circle of Red – Make a generous gift of transformational impact and join the Circle of Red giving society. Members are invited to exclusive American Heart Association events and serve as a catalyst for funding research, public and professional education programs, and community service activities. Membership begins at $1,000 annually. For more information on the Circle of Red or to learn how your company or organization can work with the American Heart Association to drive significant change in the health of the Central Valley, contact Katie Malone at Katie.Malone@heart.org.
