Members of the Oakdale Garden Club will resume their monthly meetings on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 10 a.m. at the Community Methodist Church, 1480 Poplar St., Oakdale. New members are always welcome to join and learn more about gardening in the community.

All interested are encouraged to attend this month as gardeners explore one of the most forgiving and rewarding plants in the gardening world — succulents. Whether you’re a seasoned green thumb or someone who’s convinced they can’t keep anything alive, club members say that this talk is for you.

Guest speaker, member Jane Griffith, will cover the very basics of planting and caring for succulents, from choosing the right soil and containers to watering just enough (and not a drop more). Attendees will learn why these resilient beauties thrive on a little neglect, making them perfect for busy schedules, forgetful waterers, and anyone looking to grow with confidence rather than stress.

Come discover why succulents might just be the most fun, low-maintenance addition to your garden.

Those attending will also hear more about the club’s upcoming Annual Autumn Garden Tour, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The $25 ticket booklets will be available at the meeting and also locally at Story Books and Toys - 150 S. Second Ave., The Shoppe - 110 N. Third Ave.; and Ace Hardware - 1010 E. F St., Oakdale. There are five unique gardens throughout Oakdale on the tour, each showcasing the creativity and talents of local homeowners. This is the Garden Club’s only fundraiser which supports high school scholarships, downtown pot maintenance, the Community Garden, and several special interest memorials in the community parks.
