I attended the Farmington Fire House event last Friday night, waiting with the families anticipating the arrival of Santa Claus. When I entered the door the first thing I saw was two tables filled with such an assortment of cookies. Every cookie you can dream of was in that fire station. I understand our Fire Chief Conni and her daughter Kristine spent many hours making those cookies. And let me tell you they were delicious. I think I had three; wanted more, but didn't want people watching me. Santa didn't disappoint us as his arrival was on time and in one of the shiny fire trucks with lights and sirens. Everyone ran outside to greet him. The children had to run up and give him hugs, they were so excited.

After, the crowd moved back into the fire station and each child was able to sit on his lap to tell him what their wish for Christmas was. It felt good and sad at the same time. In the aftermath of such madness, I am so grateful to be able to love and hug my children and grandchildren. I reflected back to the tragedy that played out on the news most of the day. Just thinking about the senseless tragedy in Newtown, CT made me so sad.

My heart, love and prayers go out to these families and the survivors of the horrific event.
