The National Weather Service in Sacramento has issued an Excessive Heat Watch, in effect from Friday afternoon, June 22 through Sunday evening, June 24.

Temperatures are forecast to reach between 100 and 108 degrees and this will result in heightened chances for heat-related illnesses including heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Humans, pets and livestock outdoors for any length of time could be at risk.

There are a number of precautionary measures you can take. The National Weather Service advises: drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

An Excessive Heat Watch means that a prolonged period of hot temperatures is expected and will create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are possible.

The week’s Weather Summary from the National Weather Service is as follows: A rapid warming and drying trend is in store this week with high pressure building over the region. Hot temperatures Friday into the weekend will increase the potential for heat-related illnesses for those exposed to prolonged outdoor heat, especially the elderly, children, and other sensitive groups.

Dry conditions with gusty north winds will increase the potential for fire starts and rapid spread.
