If you’ve enjoyed about as much as you can stand of soaring August temperatures, there’s an excellent opportunity coming up to beat the heat and share some great fellowship. The Escalon United Methodist Church will be hosting its annual community Ice Cream Social on Saturday, Aug. 20 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the air-conditioned social hall.

There will be a delicious variety of homemade ice cream, toppings and desserts, free of charge but a donation basket will be available for those who would like to make a donation.

The Ice Cream Social is an Escalon UMC tradition stretching back over 50 years, offered to the community by the church as a way to celebrate the end of summer and the start of the new school year.

“We’re excited to welcome our neighbors,” said Klint Turner, who has overseen the most recent years of the event, following in the footsteps of his grandmother, Annabelle Martin.

All in the community are invited to come to the ice cream social in the church hall at 2000 Jackson Ave., Escalon, and bring your family and friends.
