Mark the calendar and be prepared with some loose change or dollar bills, as the Escalon Fire Department personnel will be out in force the weekend of May 20 and 21 for the annual Fill The Boot effort.

Funds raised during the collection benefit the Firefighters Burn Institute, its programs and services.

Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; the firefighters set up at the main intersection area of Highway 120/McHenry Avenue/Escalon Avenue, near the traffic signals. The crews have their turnout boots and seek donations from passing motorists; those that donate are given a flyer to place on their windshield so they aren’t asked for a contribution again the next time through the intersection.

The Firefighters Burn Institute is a non-profit organization that treats burn victims, provides recovery programs for burn survivors, hosts public education efforts regarding fire prevention and safety, and also helps educate burn team professionals.

This year, the fire department is also offering a Venmo option for donations, contact Kaden Christensen at Kchristensen@escalonfire.com or Nathan Rodriguez at nrodriguez@escalonfire.com for additional information. You can also call the fire department directly at 209-838-7500 to find out more about the upcoming Fill The Boot effort.

The collection has raised thousands of dollars in the past for the local Firefighters Burn Institute in Sacramento and organizers are hoping this year will be a successful drive as well. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., both Saturday, May 20 and Sunday, May 21.
